Hardware Design Engineer II – ATE / Electronic Test (2–6 Years)
Job Summary
We are looking for a Hardware Engineer with 2–6 years of experience in Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) hardware design and development for aerospace electronic test applications. The role focuses on supporting the design, development, integration, and documentation of hardware solutions used for functional test, structural test, Environmental Stress Screening (ESS), qualification testing, production testing, development testing, deployment support, Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and test process compliance. The ideal candidate should have strong fundamentals in electronic hardware design, instrumentation integration, documentation discipline, and cross-functional coordination in high-reliability environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Support hardware design and development of ATE systems for aerospace electronic products, including test interfaces, signal conditioning, switching, instrumentation integration, power distribution, and interconnect solutions.
- Contribute to the design and documentation of hardware solutions for functional test, structural test, ESS, qualification, production testing, and development testing.
- Prepare and maintain engineering documentation such as schematics, wiring diagrams, interface documents, BOMs, cable lists, block diagrams, test setup documents, and release packages.
- Assist in hardware integration, bring-up, debugging, verification, and troubleshooting of ATE systems and subsystems.
- Coordinate with software, mechanical, quality, manufacturing, and project engineering teams to support complete test system development.
- Support component selection, design calculations, part derating considerations, and adherence to customer and internal engineering standards.
- Participate in design reviews, issue tracking, corrective actions, and engineering change implementation.
- Support deployment readiness by assisting with installation documentation, build support, and field issue resolution.
- Assist in MSA activities including measurement chain readiness, calibration coordination, repeatability checks, and basic correlation studies.
- Contribute to electronic test strategy inputs for aerospace products under guidance of senior engineers.
- Support adherence to test process compliance requirements, design control procedures, and aerospace documentation discipline.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechatronics or a related discipline.
- 2–6 years of relevant experience in hardware design engineering, ATE design/support, or aerospace electronic test environments.
- Basic to intermediate experience in schematic design, instrumentation integration, interface design, power distribution, and test hardware documentation.
- Exposure to electronic test systems used in functional, structural, qualification, ESS, production, or development testing.
- Understanding of hardware debug, integration, and configuration-controlled documentation practices.
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams and support technical action closure and schedule commitments.
- Good written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and project coordination.
Preferred Skills
- Exposure to tools such as OrCAD, Altium, Mentor Graphics, Zuken, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar schematic/documentation platforms is an advantage.
- Awareness of PXI/VXI, switching systems, DAQ, signal conditioning, power supplies, relay cards, and instrumentation interfaces.
- Basic understanding of MSA, GR&R, calibration, uncertainty, and repeatability/reproducibility concepts.
- Familiarity with aerospace documentation practices, revision control, and engineering release processes.
- Understanding of EMI/EMC, grounding, shielding, and test hardware safety considerations is desirable.
- Exposure to test process compliance requirements and standard operating procedures is preferred.
Key Competencies
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting capability.
- Attention to detail in design documentation and integration activities.
- Effective coordination and follow-up skills.
- Problem-solving mindset with timely escalation of issues.
- Ownership, accountability, and quality orientation.
