Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Staff Engineer Systems – Regional SE Requirements Lead (25-211) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position, located in Colorado Springs, CO., or Huntsville, AL, plays a crucial role in our mission to support the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight. C2BMC is the force multiplier globally and regionally. Networks integrate and synchronize autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to optimize performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise all current and future missile defense system capabilities.
The Engineer must understand systems engineering, systems design, development, integration & test, and verification. The candidate will possess significant experience in a related engineering environment, with good experience and expertise in systems-of-systems definition and integration.
Essential Functions:
- Provide Systems Engineering leadership to ensure a disciplined system engineering approach to the definition, development, and analysis of the system capabilities
- Understanding the design and results of comparisons, use related systems engineering tools and documents to analyze, understand, and propose changes to systems engineering analysis, user CONOPS system operational concepts, and system and interface requirements specifications in support of C2BMC
- Work towards future BMDS capabilities such as:
- Sensor management
- Tasking
- Cueing
- Discrimination architectures
- Participate in developing, executing, and analyzing the results of various tests of the software in a lab environment as needed
- The role would include the coordination of engineering disciplines in resolving system-level issues
- Learn, understand, and represent the point of view of the warfighters, operators, and systems owners, and see that it is properly respected throughout the engineering efforts
- Works as a member of the systems engineering team to develop innovative solutions to existing and new problems in their areas of expertise and ensure that the requirements of the system are understood and implemented correctly
- Should have previous experience leading complex teams in a key role
- Experience in Ballistic Missile defense is required
Salary Range for Colorado Springs: $155,400 - $233,200
Salary Range for Huntsville: $ 163,200 - $244,800
Basic Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s Degree in STEM Computer Science, Technology, System Engineering, Mathematics, or related discipline preferred from an accredited university and 12 years of related experience, or a STEM Master’s degree in System Engineering or related discipline and 10 years of experience (preferred), PhD in a STEM related discipline and 6 years of experience
- Applicants must have a current active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 10 to support business needs are required
- Must possess an understanding of the systems engineering process and principles
- Must have experience working in the missile defense domain, including operational and technical issues associated with specific areas of the missile defense domain, such as engagement management, track management, sensor management, networks, etc.
- Must have a proven track record of successfully applying system engineering principles to develop product solutions
- Must have experience developing system engineering artifacts:
- Specifications
- Interface Control Documents
- Use Case Briefings
- System Architecture Descriptions
- Trade Studies, etc.
- Familiarity with the application and use of systems engineering tools for requirements management and object-oriented requirements definition (e.g., DOORS) is required
- Must have experience working in an integrated team environment with other systems, software, and specialty engineers to develop solutions
- Must have proven experience with:
- Engineering leadership
- Identification and definition of desired capabilities
- Fielding of new capabilities
- System-of-system definition
- Integration practices and methods
- Communicating the desired capabilities to a diverse group of developers, engineers, subject matter experts, and users
- Must know C2BMC implementation
- Ability to analyze high-level needs and, using a structured and logical approach, refine those needs into an integrated set of requirements that leads to a fielded product
- Ability to lead/perform portions of the work and direct the activities of other systems engineers
- Must have the ability to work directly with multiple customer organizations and contractor organizations
- Excellent communication skills are required (written and oral), as is the ability to communicate effectively and present technical approaches and findings is required
- Able to write and implement engineering plans within a project
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in Systems Engineering is highly preferred
- Graduate Certificate: Model-Based Systems Engineering (e.g., Stevens, Caltech, UCSD, USC, GWU, INCOSE cohort, etc.)
- Certification: INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) Certification
- Certification: Object Management Group Certified Systems Modeling Professional - Model Builder Intermediate (OCSMP - MBI)
- Experience using MDNT processes and methods is desirable

Salary Range: $155,400.00 - $244,800.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
