Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Manager of Materials to lead our materials management operations in the aviation mro sector. This leadership role holds overall responsibility for managing and optimizing all stores inventory and job inventory locations, ensuring materials are efficiently received, shipped, stored, and accounted for. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in inventory control, vendor oversight, and cost-effective procurement strategies, while also ensuring that parts are accurately tracked across contract agencies.

Essential Job Functions

  • Lead and oversee labor utilization strategies, ensuring efficient workforce deployment and overtime control.
  • Drive root cause analysis improvements to maintain inventory accuracy above 95.
  • Define and implement metrics-driven goals (MBOs) across stores, inventory, and shipping functions.
  • Identify and eliminate obsolete or slow-moving inventory to optimize storage and reduce waste.
  • Develop cross-functional leadership training programs and ensure team readiness for advancement.
  • Champion employee development by identifying training needs and launching targeted learning initiatives.
  • Spearhead process improvements in inventory transactions to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Prioritize tasks and streamline workflows to accelerate parts movement and operational speed.
  • Establish and enforce procedures that elevate customer service performance.
  • Promote cross-training to boost flexibility and broaden employee capabilities across departments.
  • Ensure compliance with inventory preservation standards, including shelf-life and deterioration controls.
  • Maintain strict oversight of all inventory, including serviceable/unserviceable, customer-owned, and job-specific stock.
  • Lead shipping, receiving, and quarantine operations to ensure accountability and material traceability.
  • Provide clear role definitions and maintain regular communication through coaching, performance reviews, and team meetings.
  • Oversee development and maintenance of departmental SOPs, ensuring relevance and continuous improvement.

 

Marginal Job Functions

  •  Responsible for distributing to all pertinent departments miscellaneous technical information or other data that is received by the stock room.
  • Coordinates annual inventory.
  • Provides update of departmental activities at management meetings.
  • Attends meetings as required.

Education and Training

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain, Aviation Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant experience will be considered.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in materials management, preferably within the aviation or aerospace industry.
  • Demonstrated success in managing inventory control, procurement, logistics, and cross-functional team operations.

Certificates and Licenses

  • Valid driver’s license required.

Additional Requirements

  • Flexibility to perform duties beyond those listed, as needed by department management.
  • Willingness to work under variable conditions, including multiple shifts or irregular hours, depending on operational needs.

Work Environment

Location: Aircraft maintenance hangar, flightline, and Avionics Shop
Potential Hazards: Exposure to high-intensity noise levels, extreme temperature changes, electrical charges and radar waves, hazardous materials, moving machinery
Protective Equipment Required: Goggles, safety glasses, face shields, ear protection, aprons, gloves, safety harnesses, breathing equipment

  • Employees must perform duties in accordance with company policies and government regulations to preserve life and resources
  • Participate in safety education programs and learn how to recognize and report hazards
  • Employees must report errors, incidents, and accidents honestly as a condition of employment
  • Employees should report unsafe conditions or take reasonable corrective action, then notify a supervisor
  • In case of accidents/incidents, the first employee to observe must alert responders/supervisors and take steps to prevent further injury or damage
