As an Assistant Nurse, you will be responsible for the delivery of a high standard of basic care to eligible staff members and their dependents. The focus of this role is on supporting the registered nurses and physician during procedures and examinations whilst working collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team to ensure the needs of the service are met.
In this role, you will:
- Provide and prepare surgical equipment for the doctor prior to minor surgeries, according to clinic guidelines and assist doctors in minor surgery.
- Monitor and maintain stock of health education leaflets for use by doctors and nurses as well as consumables and sterile instruments in all examination rooms, to ensure adequate supply. Order stock as required in order to facilitate the smooth running of both nursing and medical services.
- Under the supervision of the registered nurse or physician participate in the planning and provision of basic care to patients (apply clean dressings, slings, splints, stockings, or support bandages, under direction of nurse or physician).
- Assist the registered nurse in the assessment of individuals/groups assessment, document findings and report them in a timely manner.
- Record vital signs, such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, or respiration rate, as directed by medical or nursing staff in the EPR system. Record vital statistics or other health information such as height or weight of patients.
- Collect specimens, such as urine, faeces, or sputum. Arrange for transportation of specimens, laboratory items, or pharmacy items, ensuring proper documentation and delivery to authorized personnel.
- Explain medical instructions to patients or family members and provide information such as directions, visiting hours, or patient status information to visitors or callers.
- Continuously assess risk and ensure appropriate measures are taken within the practice to minimise risk by monitoring work areas and ensures they are Hazard free. Practice Infection Control principles in every day practice.
