Job Title: Millwright Mechanic
Job Description
As a Millwright Mechanic, you will engage in the operation of various mechanical tools and equipment, providing rigging for lifting operations. Your role will involve welding with diverse materials, operating hydraulic and high-pressure gas systems, and assisting with intricate research test packages.
Responsibilities
- Operate facility overhead crane, bucket trucks, man-lifts, forklifts, and portable cranes. Provide rigging for lifting equipment and material, including lifting straps, chain hoists, and come-alongs.
- Weld horizontally, overhead, and vertically using oxy-acetylene, AC-DC electric arc, M.I.G., and T.I.G. with materials such as stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, copper, and brass.
- Operate large mechanical tools such as drill presses, power hacksaws, band saws, shears, pipe threaders, brakes, rollers, lathes, and grinders, as well as small power tools like air wenches, drills, and grinders.
- Lay out and build complex tubing systems using flaring machines and tubing benders.
- Disassemble, repair, reassemble, and verify various types of valves, valve operators, and pressure regulators, ensuring compatibility with flow media properties including pressure and temperature.
- Operate hydraulic systems and high-pressure gas systems including gas tubers, pressure reduction stations, pressure pumps, and seals.
- Work with environmental test chambers, mass spectrometer leak detectors, and vacuum systems.
- Assist in the installation and operation of intricate research test packages in various test facilities.
- Fabricate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical control test panels and special test equipment, and operate, maintain, and calibrate leak detection systems.
- Perform general maintenance on mechanical vacuum pumping equipment, diffusion pumps, cryo-pumps, steam ejector systems, heat exchangers, and cryogenic vaporizers.
- Inspect and evaluate mechanical equipment and facility operating systems, recommending maintenance and repair solutions.
- Fabricate, install, and operate cryogenic systems including liquid hydrogen, liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, or liquid helium.

The Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering (TFOME) team at the NASA Glenn Research Center provides engineering and technical services in aeronautics, space power, and propulsion test facilities. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cleveland, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.15 - $35.15/hr.
